CHEManager reports on nanodiag BW and the potential of nanopore-based analysis for drug development, manufacturing and diagnostics.
Nanopore technology is increasingly attracting attention beyond the immediate research community. In the current issue of CHEManager, a leading trade publication for the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, nanodiag BW presents the technology and its potential applications in pharmaceutical research and manufacturing.
The article “Together for new diagnostics”, authored by Cluster Manager Hanna Hasselblatt, Cluster Spokesperson Prof Felix von Stetten and Deputy Cluster Spokesperson Prof Jan C. Behrends, explores the new analytical possibilities offered by nanopore-based single-molecule analysis.
One focus is the analysis of complex biomolecules and their modifications. Nanopores enable individual molecules to be measured directly in aqueous solution and could therefore complement established methods such as mass spectrometry for certain analytical questions. The article discusses potential applications in areas including drug development, the characterisation of post-translational modifications, and quality control for biologics and new therapeutic modalities.
For nanodiag BW, the publication is also a sign that nanopore technology is increasingly gaining the attention of industries that could benefit from its applications. The cluster is working to translate the technology from research into practical applications by bringing together expertise from science, clinical practice and industry.
