What does it mean to study, research, and work?
What does the Faculty of Engineering Campus at the University of Freiburg offer?
What do women with a degree in computer science or engineering do?
These questions were addressed today, along with some insights and impressions. Among other things, in a discussion round with women who study, teach, or work at the University of Freiburg (IIF, IMTEK, INATECH, HAHN-SCHICKARD).
Helena Gmoser was one of the role models. She shared why she chose to study Microsystems Engineering here. The versatility of the programme was crucial for her: the technical focus combined with medical insights. Currently, Helena is active in the field of bioanalytics and involved in the development of molecular diagnostic tests.
“Of course, I also experienced ups and downs during my studies! However, giving up was never an option for me. With the goal in mind of one day working at the interface between engineering and medicine, I tackled my studies with a lot of enjoyment and commitment. I felt—and still feel—very much at home at the Faculty of Engineering, which is why I still enjoy working at IMTEK.”
Following the discussion round, which was moderated by Eva Rüskamp (International Research Marketing, University of Freiburg), various workshops were offered to the interested students. A very exciting and inspiring Girls’ Day and a small contribution to strengthening the link between science and society.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Freiburg for the excellent organisation.
