Fresh Impulses, Focused Exchange, Shared Perspectives
The Innovative Retreat 2025 made it clear once again: when people from research, clinical practice and industry come together for three days of intensive discussion, ideas take shape, perspectives shift – and concrete approaches to shared challenges begin to emerge.
Across eight scientific sessions and two poster presentations, the nanodiag BW community worked through key questions in nanopore sensing, signal processing, membrane and chip technologies, clinical applications, and the automation of diagnostic workflows.

At the same time, the retreat fostered something just as important:
open, dynamic exchange across disciplines, institutions and roles.
In every break, new groups formed – spontaneous, engaged, diverse. Scientists and engineers, clinicians and entrepreneurs entered into deep conversation – about data and interfaces, workflows and real-world implementation. It was a retreat in motion – not only along the hiking trails, but above all in thought. The non-scientific activities added to the atmosphere and helped strengthen personal connections – the evening pub quiz and a group hike through the Black Forest offered space for informal exchange and shared laughter.
One mission – many perspectives
The programme once again reflected the scientific breadth and depth of nanodiag BW – and the cluster’s strength lies precisely in this diversity. And yet, throughout all discussions, the shared mission remained tangible: To bring nanopore-based diagnostics into real-world application – reliably, at scale, and with clinical relevance.
“The cluster has taken the next step”
“I can sense the growing trust between the different partners. It’s creating a dynamic that's almost tangible – and it gives us real momentum as we prepare for the next phase of implementation.”
Hanna Hasselblatt, Clustermanager nanodiag BW

Sincere thanks for three intense and inspiring days
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all participants – for their openness, commitment and shared focus.
Our special thanks go to the municipality of St. Märgen for granting us access to the unique Chapter Hall of the monastery – and to Hotel Hirschen St. Märgen for the warm hospitality and outstanding support throughout the event.
With renewed energy and a stronger sense of community, we now turn towards the next phase – ready to shape the future of diagnostics, together.
